Nantes Université will host an international workshop on Biocultural Heritage Tourism, organised by the Seed Funding Project “EUniWell - Advancing understanding of well-being tourism, drawing upon the European biocultural heritage”. The event will involve a delegation of experts on tourism and biocultural heritage valorisation, coming from the EUniWell European Network Universities of Nantes, Linnaeus (Sweden), Florence (Italy), and Birmingham (UK), with a guest from the University of Lapland (Finland).

The event will take place on 17 to 19 November in Nantes. It can also be attended online via Zoom.

The programme of this workshop includes contributions of experts on tourism and biocultural heritage valorisation coming from all the partner universities, a writing session, a conference on “Indigenous tourism research from the perspective of Finnish Lapland” and a field trip to the Brière Park, near Guérande on the theme “Biocultural heritage and well-being tourism, the case study of the Brière Park” to show representative and illustrative case studies from different European countries.

The conference on 18 November will be a special contribution on a country case by Monika Lüthje, Senior Lecturer, Multidimensional Tourism Institute, from the University of Lapland (Finland):

“Indigenous tourism research from the perspective of Finnish Lapland”

Monika Lüthje started working with the Indigenous Sámi 30 years ago. The presentation will focus on the lessons learned during these years, among others: reciprocity, taking sides, being labelled, long-term commitment, trust-building and recognising polyphony, which are seen foremost as issues of cultural sensitivity and research ethics.

The workshop aims to be an important occasion for students, researchers, and practitioners to share and discuss their knowledge and experiences, thus supporting the advancement of a new conceptualisation of biocultural heritage valorisation for well-being tourism, and also fostering the realisation of new experiences of international mobility.

The seminar is hosted by Nantes Université in collaboration with the University of Florence, Linnaeus University and the University of Birmingham.
