Europeans enjoy some of the longest life expectancies and Europe has one of the highest levels of human development in the world. Yet no EU member state currently guarantees the well-being of its citizens while also staying within planetary boundaries. All European countries are currently living well beyond the means of the planet, and yet some of the social objectives included in the Sustainable Development Goals are not being met.
Although access to a healthy environment is now considered by Eurostat as a component of well-being, the understanding of the interactions between well-being, social outcomes and the state of the environment still requires further attention: this is reflected in the often narrow focus of policy design, leaving many opportunities yet to be explored.
FestiWell ‘22 is therefore organised around sustainability and well-being as an interconnected core theme and asks, among other things, about climate justice and the social dimensions of an effective sustainability transition, about the connection between cities and rural areas or how education and training systems can contribute to sustainable development. These topics are framed by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
FestiWell aims to open the academic inner circle to transdisciplinary exchange as well the wider public. Therefore, all interested parties are invited to come together for a sustainable, well-being-oriented future. From 2-13 May 2022, each of the seven EUniWell partner universities will organise one FestiWell day as part of the programme.
If you are a researcher, student, educator, staff member or practitioner from a EUniWell institution, we would love for you to shape the programme with us to make it as diverse and insightful as possible.
You are invited to submit original contributions on research or best practice and experience, including but not limited to the following:
This could cover formats and activities like the following:
Group contributions are just as welcome as individual contributions and can also include multiple EUniWell partners. If you would like to realise a collaborative project and are looking for partners at other EUniWell universities, we will be happy to help you get connected.
As 2022 is the European Year of Youth, which also advocates building a better future - greener, more inclusive and digital - students and young researchers in particular are invited to make their voices heard as part of this year's FestiWell programme.
An initial brief description of the contribution must be submitted by email by 3 March 2022. Further information on the desired content, scope, deadlines, etc. for the call for contributions can be downloaded in summary form.
We look forward to your submissions!
