The EUniWell School Ambassador Programme’s main objective is to develop links and collaborations with local secondary schools. The programme involves highly motivated university students who demonstrate great potential to be ambassadors of their university and can serve as role models for the local secondary school students. Student ambassadors are mostly first-generation university students, who are willing to promote lifelong learning associated with well-being in secondary schools they previously graduated from.

On the first occasion of the EUniWell School Ambassador event series, four student ambassadors of Semmelweis University visited a local vocational school in February. 60 secondary school students attended the first career orientation forum in Raoul Wallenberg Vocational School in Budapest. Participants had the opportunity to gain insight into the higher education system, current scholarships, student organisation activities, and other events at the university.

Within the framework of this programme, Semmelweis University is collaborating with Budapest Medical Students’ Association (BMSA). BMSA is a non-governmental, non-profit medical student association organising health prevention classes for mainly high school students on numerous topics, which are also available within the framework of the EuniWell School Ambassador Programme.

During the first forum, a student representative of the Budapest Medical Students’ Association gave a presentation on the admission requirements and the various higher education opportunities offered by Semmelweis University. The presentation was followed by an open Q&A session that gave an opportunity to all attendees to ask questions and get first-hand information from the ambassador students who are former students of the vocational school and currently studying at Semmelweis University.

The scheme is expected to continue and reach more students of the vocational high school network of the university and more disadvantaged pupils from less privileged socioeconomic backgrounds in Hungary.

After the successful implementation within the institutions of Semmelweis University, the School Ambassador Programme will be ready to be introduced in the other EUniWell partner universities. The School Ambassador scheme is planned to be implemented in line with the societal, social and economic conditions of the partner university’s respective country. In accordance with the principles and values of EUniWell, the overall purpose of the programme is to promote individual and social well-being, lifelong learning, and equal opportunities in society.
