University of Florence, Centro Linguistico di Ateneo Online EUniWell-Event

After a successful first experience, the University of Florence is once again organising a course on "Intercomprehension between Romance languages", a course aimed at understanding six languages from the same family (Catalan, French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian and Spanish).

The picture shows four tiles in different colours. Each tile shows a smiling person and the statement "I speak. You understand." in four different Romance languages.

Intercomprehension is a recent didactic approach, but an ancient way of communication: everyone speaks in their mother tongue and can understand the language of their interlocutor without using a "lingua franca". Intercomprehension (IC) enables everyone to understand all the languages of a common family, thereby promoting equal exchange. IC promotes diversity, multilingualism, respect for differences and well-being.

The course is free of charge for all persons belonging to the universities of the EUniWell network. Places are reserved for university partners - for students, teachers or administrative staff.

Key facts:

  • It is important to have a good knowledge of at least one Romance language.
  • The course (30 hours) will be held mainly in Italian and French, but will also cover other languages.
  • Classes start on 4 March and run until mid-May, every Friday morning from 10:30-13:30 (CET) / 9:30-12:30 (GMT).
  • Teacher: Hugues Sheeren
  • There are 9 places reserved for the university partners for students, teachers or administrative staff.
