Elevate your academic journey: Join us at the University of Florence on 22 April for two empowering workshops – “Managing our Learning Environment” and “Connecting through Communication”. Apply by 14 April for a morning of growth and skills development!

Workshop 1: Managing our Learning Environment

This workshop aims to: 

  • provide practical tools specifically designed to address the unique and demanding nature of academic life, acknowledging the specific stressors faced by researchers, professors, and students;
  • equip participants with the skills to navigate the challenges of academia with resilience, fostering a proactive and adaptable mindset;
  • introduce techniques and strategies to help participants maintain a healthy balance between academic responsibilities and personal well-being, promoting long-term sustainability and success;
  • offer insights and methods to enhance productivity while managing stress, allowing participants to optimise their work without compromising their mental and emotional well-being;
  • foster a positive mindset by providing participants with tools to approach challenges with a constructive outlook, promoting mental health and overall satisfaction in academic pursuits;
  • encourage participants to embrace and implement practices that contribute to a healthier academic lifestyle, emphasising the importance of well-being in achieving long-term success in academia.

About the facilitators:

Prof. Christian Tarchi (PhD) is an associate professor of Educational and Developmental Psychology at the University of Florence. He specialises in digital learning, critical thinking, and learning difficulties.

Prof. Glenda Galeotti (PhD) is a Researcher in General and Social Pedagogy at the University of Florence. She focuses on adult education for the safeguarding of cultural and natural heritage, sustainable development, and social innovation, including within the context of international development cooperation.


Workshop 2: Connecting through Communication: Clear, Concise and Confident (5C)

This workshop aims to help you with:

  • map techniques to articulate your ideas clearly in your teaching, research and managerial roles;
  • enhance your ability to communicate with confidence, clarity, precision, and impact in oral and written forms;
  • adapt your communication styles to different audiences, situations, and channels/means;
  • foster active listening and collaborative communication skills in teamwork, learn more about consensus-building to connect ideas and people, and achieve common goals effectively;
  • build your confidence in interpersonal communication across linguistic and cultural boundaries.

About the facilitators:

Professor Sheena Gardner joined Coventry University as Head of English and Languages in 2011. Sheena has a background in Functional Linguistics, English Language Teaching (Germany, Sudan, Ukraine), EFL, ESL and EAL Teacher Education and Applied Linguistics (Canada and UK), with experience in Malaysia, Botswana, Pakistan, and China. Her more than 70 publications include teaching materials, and internationally refereed journal articles. She understands the complexities of how language functions in changing and diverse social and educational contexts, and how we communicate on many different levels. This complexity is enriched when English is used in international settings by speakers of other languages.

Dr Que Anh Dang is Assistant Professor and an educational sociologist researcher at Coventry University. She has 20+ years of experience working in international education in management and research roles in the UK, Germany, Denmark and Vietnam. She currently supervises PhD students from the UK, South Africa, Ireland, Indonesia, the Philippines, China, Egypt and Armenia. Therefore she has honed her communication skills in teaching and research across linguistic and cultural boundaries. She has published internationally about education policy mobility, lifelong learning, transnational education (TNE) in East Asia, the role of the World Bank in education reforms, and globalisation and regionalisation of higher education in Europe and Asia.

Format: in-person. The courses will be accessible on Google Classroom starting 23 April 2024 until 31 July 2024.

Who can attend: The event marks the launch of a series of online courses on the importance of soft skills aimed at master's students, doctoral candidates, researchers, professors, and administrative staff of the EUniWell partnership.

Participation in the workshops is free of charge for applicants from all EUniWell universities.

Your university may be able to support your travel and accommodation costs, depending on whether they have access to grants or funding. Please contact your local EUniWell team before applying.

The organisers will provide an admission response within two working days after the application

In the interest of an optimal learning experience, the organisers reserve the right to adjust the composition of groups to include representatives of the different universities as much as possible – so first-come, first-served will not always be possible.
