Projects

EUniWell’s work is shaped by a long-term Alliance mission and by the projects, funding lines, and collaborations that help put this mission into practice. Together, they help translate EUniWell’s mission into concrete actions and develop our cooperation across disciplines, universities, and European funding contexts.

Foundation projects

EUniWell’s first major projects established the basis for the Alliance’s current work. The Erasmus+ pilot phase created the initial structures and working relationships of EUniWell as a European Universities alliance. EUniWell #Research strengthened the research and innovation dimension and supported the development of a more coordinated research ecosystem around well-being.

Erasmus+ pilot

The Erasmus+ Pilot marked the first major implementation phase of EUniWell. Launched in November 2020, it brought together the seven founding member universities around a shared mission: to build a European University focused on well-being.

EUniWell #Research

EUniWell #Research developed the Alliance’s research and innovation dimension. Funded under the Horizon 2020 Science with and for Society (SwafS) programme from 2021 to 2024, the project supported EUniWell in building a more coordinated research ecosystem around well-being and in connecting research more closely with Open Science, skills development, science communication, and policy-oriented dissemination.

TEFF: Teacher Education for a Future in Flux

TEFF, Teacher Education for a Future in Flux, was an Erasmus+ Teacher Academy funded from 2023 to 2026. It was connected to EUniWell’s Thematic Arena “Teacher Education and Well-Being”. TEFF focused on the skills present and future teachers need in changing societies, including digital, green, inclusive, and well-being-related competences. The project brought together universities, schools, further education institutions, and other partners to strengthen teacher education across Europe.

Current and continuing project landscape

EUniWell’s project landscape continues to develop beyond these completed project lines. The current Erasmus+ funding phase, EUniWell – Well-Being for Our Futures (WeFF), supports the Alliance’s long-term development, including institutional integration, deeper cooperation in education and research, student participation, mobility, transfer, and societal engagement.

At the same time, further projects evolving from the collaboration within EUniWell are developing around more specific fields of work. EUniWell’s MSCA COFUND project SPARK will create a postdoctoral fellowship network to advance multidisciplinary well-being research. PATH_ED supports work towards the Joint European Degree Label across selected degree programmes. DigiUni contributes to digital higher education cooperation with Ukraine. LULaC focuses on digital teaching and learning resources for lesser-used languages. EMBRACE addresses mental health and well-being in higher education. Other Erasmus+ cooperation projects, including EU-GANOM and BAGSKOL, show how partnerships formed through EUniWell can develop into further external funding and collaboration.

EUniWell’s Seed Funding Programme is another important pillar of this wider landscape. It gives researchers, educators, students, and staff the opportunity to develop collaborative ideas into concrete activities. Some funded projects remain exploratory. Others create the basis for future teaching formats, research cooperation, public engagement, or external applications.

Taken together, these activities show EUniWell as a platform for sustained European university cooperation: a shared Alliance structure that supports focused initiatives, connects expertise, and creates routes from early ideas to longer-term collaboration.
