Open Science

EUniWell is committed to advancing Open Science across the Alliance. This work includes the EUniWell Open Science Contact Point, the Open Science Working Group, Open Science courses and training, and guidance on research data management, particularly for projects supported through the EUniWell Seed Funding Programme.

EUniWell Open Science Contact Point

What kinds of Open Educational Resources (OER) platforms are in use in Sweden? How can I find Open Access funding opportunities in Germany? If these or similar questions about Open Science are on your mind, then EUniWell’s Open Science Contact Point is the place for you!

The EUniWell Open Science Contact Point serves as a central advisory and networking hub for Open Science within the EUniWell network. It provides advice on Open Science practices, policies, and strategies, helping researchers, staff, and students navigate relevant frameworks. It also connects enquiries with appropriate experts across the Alliance.

Through the Open Science Working Group, the Contact Point supports dialogue and collaboration on Open Science topics and developments, providing space for knowledge exchange and joint initiatives. It also supports the sharing of good practices across EUniWell.

You can reach the EUniWell Open Science Contact Point at openscience@euniwell.eu.

The four core pillars of the Contact Point

  1. Provision of guidance: Expert advice on Open Science practices, strategies, and policies
  2. Referral to experts: Connections with relevant contacts and specialists across the Alliance
  3. Facilitation of exchange: Opportunities for dialogue, networking, and knowledge sharing
  4. Support for Open Science initiatives: Promotion of collaborative projects and good practices

We look forward to supporting you in your Open Science journey!

Open Science consultation hours

EUniWell offers regular Open Science consultation hours as an informal space for researchers, research support staff, librarians, and anyone interested in Open Science across the Alliance. Participants can ask questions, receive initial guidance, connect with relevant experts or support services, and exchange experiences with colleagues across EUniWell. Topics can include research data management, Open Access publishing, FAIR data principles, citizen science, research assessment, reproducibility, Open Educational Resources, and other Open Science practices. No prior registration is required.

Check out the EUniWell Event Calendar  for the upcoming consultation times.

Open Science courses and training

EUniWell offers training opportunities covering different aspects of Open Science. The Open Science Basic Course introduces Open Science practices and their benefits for researchers and the research system. It is available through the EUniWell Courses and Training Catalogue.

The course is asynchronous, online, and self-study. Students can receive 3 ECTS as well as a certificate.

The course includes eight modules covering:

  • Open Science
  • Open Access
  • Research Data Management
  • FAIR principles and repositories
  • Persistent identifiers
  • Legal questions
  • Open Educational Resources

The modules consist of a screencast, presentation, script, test, and additional materials such as research papers.

EUniWell also provides FAIR Data Training videos, developed through #Research.

EUniWell Open Science Working Group

The Open Science Working Group meets regularly to exchange on Open Science-related topics and developments.

Current areas of work include:

  1. EUniWell Open Science Policy Recommendation
A collaborative effort to help universities develop or expand their Open Science policies, tailored to local needs and based on shared good practices.
  2. Open Science Mapping
An overview of the current status of Open Science at each member university, identifying where they stand and possible parameters for assessing Open Science.
  3. Course development
A collaborative approach to identifying needs, translating or internationalising existing courses, and creating new offerings, either general or locally tailored.
  4. Open Methods Pool
A growing collection in which EUniWell researchers share and exchange methods to support collaboration and innovation.

Open Science Meet-Ups

The Open Science Meet-Ups provide a space for informal exchange on Open Science-related topics. They are held in English and are open to everyone, with no registration required.

If you have topic suggestions, ideas, or questions you would like to discuss at an Open Science Meet-Up, we would be happy to hear from you.

Check out the EUniWell Event Calendar for the upcoming meetings.

Open Science practices

EUniWell’s Open Science work covers a range of practices that make research more accessible, transparent, and collaborative. This includes:

  • Open Access,
  • Open Research Data Management,
  • Open Education through the Open Education Working Group, and
  • Citizen Science through EUniWell’s civic engagement activities.

EUniWell also supports the development of Open Research Assessment and is a signatory to the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment of the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA). In addition, EUniWell is working on Open Methods as part of its longer-term development of Open Research Infrastructure.

Open Science Staff Weeks

EUniWell offers opportunities for staff from across the Alliance to exchange knowledge, share practices, and explore different aspects of Open Science through international Staff Weeks and related activities. These have included sessions on Open Access, research data management, Open Educational Resources, and practical tools and services. Further opportunities are planned as part of EUniWell’s ongoing Open Science activities.

Check out the EUniWell Courses and Training Catalogue for upcoming opportunities.

EUniWell Data Management Plans

EUniWell provides an Open Data Management Plan (ODMP) offering guidance on responsible research data management across the Alliance. The ODMP outlines good practices for planning, managing, storing, and sharing research data throughout the research lifecycle and introduces the FAIR principles: Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.

Projects supported through the EUniWell Seed Funding Programme are required to adhere to good data management practices and to prepare and follow the EUniWell Data Management Plan.

Researchers can receive support from local data stewards and institutional Research Data Management (RDM) services within EUniWell member universities.

Showcasing good examples of Open Science practices across the Alliance

We invite researchers and staff to share examples of Open Science practices from across the EUniWell Alliance. To submit an example or find out more, contact openscience[at]euniwell.eu.
