Civic Initiatives
EUniWell brings together university members and external partners to create meaningful societal impact. By fostering collaboration, making academic knowledge accessible, and supporting engagement beyond academia, we work to enhance civic well-being across our regions. Join us in turning ideas into actions that drive positive change and benefit our communities.
Turning knowledge into community impact
EUniWell co-creates initiatives that bring together students, researchers, educators, and staff from across our universities with partners outside academia, such as public authorities, hospitals, schools, businesses and wider community organisations. These initiatives create opportunities to share knowledge, address societal challenges, and develop practical solutions together. To drive these changes effectively, EUniWell employs several key approaches:
- Providing training to university members to increase their impact on society.
- Making academic knowledge accessible to wider society and contributing to shaping regional policy.
- Expanding the boundaries of our campuses by inviting external stakeholders to contribute to and collaborate with EUniWell initiatives.
- Measuring, monitoring, and evaluating the contributions of EUniWell initiatives on regional well-being.
Get involved
Explore our projects and take part! Whether you are a student, researcher, educator, staff member, or societal partner, there are opportunities to contribute your knowledge, experience, and ideas:
- The EUniWell School Ambassador Programme engages university students as role models in schools to promote life-long learning, well-being, and European educational opportunities through mentoring and outreach activities.
- Our Service Learning projects combine academic study with volunteering, enabling students to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world contexts. By working with non-profit or community organisations to address concrete needs, students develop civic responsibility while gaining new perspectives.
- The Civic Leadership Blog brings together partners from university and society to share news, stories, and research connected to how universities and communities are working together on initiatives that support social and individual well-being.
- The Mayor’s Placement Scheme was a virtual summer 2022 internship, bringing together students from EUniWell universities to work with Birmingham City Council’s Public Health Division on health and well-being issues for women and girls in a diverse European city.
