Research and innovation programmes
Research and innovation are at the heart of EUniWell’s mission to advance well-being across Europe. The Alliance brings together researchers from different disciplines and institutions to address complex societal challenges, develop new ideas, and strengthen collaboration across national and academic boundaries.
Through a range of research and innovation programmes, EUniWell provides researchers with opportunities to connect, collaborate, develop new ideas, and create impact. From supporting individual research leaders and early-stage ideas to fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and providing digital tools for collaboration, these initiatives contribute to a vibrant European research ecosystem focused on well-being.
EUniWell Champions Scheme
The EUniWell Champions Scheme supports established researchers in taking on a leadership role as ambassadors for the Alliance. Champions use their expertise and networks to strengthen connections across EUniWell, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and disseminate research on well-being within and beyond the Alliance.
Each EUniWell Champion receives funding of up to €15,000 to support a six-month programme of activities. Their work includes collaborative research and innovation, conferences and seminars, mobility, engagement with external partners, and contributions to the EUniWell Centre for Advanced Studies.
EUniWell Centre for Advanced Studies
The EUniWell Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) provides a platform for interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary exchange, bringing together researchers, experts, and other stakeholders to explore emerging challenges related to well-being.
Through its symposia and other activities, the CAS creates space for new ideas, dialogue, and collaboration across disciplines and institutions. It places particular emphasis on strengthening research capacity and supporting the next generation of researchers by connecting early-career researchers with established expertise across the Alliance.
The CAS also serves as a space for foresight and knowledge exchange, helping EUniWell identify emerging issues and develop collaborative research and innovation responses to societal challenges.
Well-Being Research Incubator Programme
Being part of EUniWell’s H2020 SwafS project EUniWell #Research from 2021 to 2024, the Well-Being Research Incubator Programme supported researchers in turning initial ideas into international collaborations and new research projects.
Through collaborative workshops, researchers from different EUniWell institutions could discover research taking place across Europe, build networks, identify shared interests and develop interdisciplinary project ideas. Selected ideas received follow-on funding to test and develop smaller-scale projects, creating a pathway towards larger research collaborations and future funding opportunities.

A connected European research ecosystem
Together, these initiatives form complementary elements of the EUniWell research and innovation ecosystem.
By bringing these opportunities together, EUniWell aims to strengthen research collaboration across Europe, support researchers at different career stages, and generate knowledge and innovation that can contribute to healthier, more inclusive, and sustainable societies.
