About the programme

The EUniWell Science-to-Public Communication workshops are open to researchers from all EUniWell member universities, regardless of their career level and field of expertise.

The workshops will provide participants with in-depth access to different topics with an interactive component creating opportunities for networking between peers from different universities.

The online workshops will focus on either oral communication or written communication, with a flexible curriculum. Each researcher can apply to one or both sessions, depending on their needs and interest.

Aim of the programme

Engaging different audiences (general public, local communities, scientific community, professionals from various fields, and science journalists) can strengthen young researchers’ academic profiles.

The participants of the programme will be able to:Identify the most engaging part of their research

  • Gain an awareness of audience types and their needs
  • Learn how to develop messages for their research
  • Write a captivating script for their speech to grab their audience’s interest, and make an impression
  • Explain why and how they should engage the public with their research
  • Network with other researchers and professionals from the EUniWell partner universities

How does it work?

The online workshops are designed as a mix of presentations and practical applications, in an interactive environment encouraging experience-sharing, discussions and concrete examples in which the participants will be able to practice their podcast/vlog-making or speech-writing skills.

The current programme offers a choice of two modules.

Schedule of the programme

Module1: Speech writing in practice to the general public

Description: As a speaker, connecting with your audience is crucial. A key aspect of ensuring your message resonates is crafting a compelling manuscript. But how can you effectively grab the audience’s attention, make a lasting impression, and clarify and present your (potentially) complicated research in a manner that is clear and relevant to them? This module focuses on addressing these challenges.

We will alternate between short lectures and workshop activities aiming to increase your knowledge of, among other things,

  • Emphasising key points in your speech
  • Preparing a manuscript tailored for the ear, and not for the eye
  • Choosing a manuscript format that aligns with your speaking style and the purpose of your speech
  • Enhancing your ability remember what to say and help the audience remember what you said
  • Making effective stylistic decisions in your speech.
