About this symposium

Under the theme "Early academic careers - Transitioning between systems in a changing world", the Second Symposium of the EUniWell Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) will take place from 8 to 10 October 2025 at the University of Konstanz’s Zukunftskolleg.

Doctoral students and postdocs from all eleven EUniWell member universities are warmly invited to:

  • connect with fellow early career researchers (ECRs) across disciplines and institutions,
  • present your research poster and meet new potential collaborators,
  • learn about funding opportunities and international mobility within the EUniWell Alliance,
  • help to shape the future of the EUniWell Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) for young scholars.

The 2nd CAS Symposium will explore both the opportunities and challenges that early academic careers are facing across Europe. It is hosted by the University of Konstanz's Zukunftskolleg – an Institute for Advanced Studies for early career researchers from different disciplines and nationalities. Following the Zukunftskolleg’s 5i strategy (international, interdisciplinary, intra-university, intergenerational, independent), the programme will also involve perspectives from EUniWell Champions and other experts from EUniWell’s thematic arenas and is designed to spark creativity, foster meaningful connections, and encourage bold, cross-disciplinary thinking.

Programme:

Expect a dynamic mix of training, inspiration, and collaboration:

  • Day 1: Digital skills workshops and future-focused training for ECRs
  • Day 2: Discussions on the beauty and complexity of early academic careers and how a Centre for Advanced Studies addresses the needs of ECRs
  • Day 3: Interdisciplinary workshops on EUniWell’s thematic arenas (Multilingualism in Academia, Equality in Academia, Teacher Education, Health, Sustainability) and on the evolution of the CAS

To prepare for the symposium, participants will have to join an online session and a virtual poster gallery in September.  Fluency in English is required.

More details about the programme can be found on the symposium website.

Registration: Participation is free of charge, but prior registration is required due to limited capacity. Registration is open until 10 July 2025. Some limited travel funding can be provided by the home university. Find the registration form here.

Location: University of Konstanz (Zukunftskolleg), Universitätsstraße 10, 78464 Konstanz, Germany

About the CAS symposia

The CAS symposia are a new initiative designed to support and connect early career researchers across EUniWell. Targeting doctoral and postdoctoral researchers as well as research group leaders, the bi-annual events provide a dedicated platform to explore pressing topics relevant to early career stages in an international and interdisciplinary setting.

The initiative is carried out within the framework of EUniWell’s Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS), the alliance’s core structure for research, innovation, and knowledge transfer. CAS plays a central role in fostering cross-institutional collaboration, and this series forms part of its mission to empower the next generation of researchers by harnessing the alliance’s collective expertise.
