EUniWell Street Poster Art: Call for Artists
EUniWell’s Arena Environmental Change and Well-Being in collaboration with the University of Florence’s Green Office invites its university communities to take part in Living Cities: Urban Nature, Social Care and Resistance to Overtourism. The call for artists aims to explore how cities can become more liveable, inclusive, and ecologically resilient, and asks how we can reclaim the city for the people who live in it.
Participants are invited to use art to question how public space is used, who it serves, and how it can support social connections and coexistence with urban nature.
Five selected artworks will be printed and exhibited in public space in Florence, and one will receive the €500 Best Street Poster prize. Selected artists will be invited to the exhibition opening event during Green Week in April 2027, with two nights of accommodation in Florence provided by EUniWell.
Who can apply?
The call is open to students, researchers, and administrative staff affiliated with universities within the EUniWell Alliance. Applications may be submitted individually or as a group of eligible participants.
How to apply
Participants are invited to submit an original vertical artwork addressing one of three themes:
- Theme A – Care, Roots and Futures: Explore how caring for public space and the urban environment can connect generations, counter loneliness, and strengthen social connections and well-being.
- Theme B – Botanical Utopias: Reimagine pavements, façades, and buildings through plant life, exploring urban green spaces, climate justice, and biodiversity.
- Theme C – The Right to the City: Explore overtourism, gentrification, memory, and liveability, and imagine how communities can reclaim shared spaces and sustain local identities.
A range of artistic techniques is welcome, including digital illustration, graphic design, typography, photography, drawing, painting, stencil, collage, mixed media, and printmaking. All artworks must be submitted as digital files; physical works must be scanned or photographed at high resolution.
Submit your application through the online application form until 31 January 2027.
Please observe the following specifications:
- The artwork must be 70 cm wide by 100 cm high
- All works must be submitted digitally, including works created using traditional techniques, which must be scanned or photographed at high resolution.
- Prepare a PDF or JPEG preview of no more than 10 MB and provide a download link to a high-resolution print file in PDF, TIFF or JPEG format. Please consult the full call for detailed technical requirements before submitting.
Please read the Call for Artists PDF carefully for further information.
Exhibition and prize
A selection committee will choose five artworks for the Florence exhibition. EUniWell will arrange and cover printing and installation through a local printing provider, most likely using display panels. Applicants do not need to produce or supply physical posters or panels.
Selected artists will be contacted to discuss production details and agree on any technical adjustments needed for printing.
The exhibition will open with a dedicated event during Green Week, within the week of 17–23 April 2027, featuring round-table discussions and the Best Street Poster award ceremony. The exact event dates and exhibition venue and programme will be confirmed.
The selected artists will be invited to attend, with two nights of accommodation in Florence provided by EUniWell. One of the five exhibited artworks will receive the €500 Best Street Poster prize.
In addition to the five works exhibited in Florence, all eligible submissions will be featured on the EUniWell website and official social media channels.
