Summer School - Does peace still have a future?

Historical and current views on peace education

Course description

75 years after the end of the Second World War and 35 years after the end of the Cold War, we may well wonder whether there really is a culture of peace at a time when crises seem to be reinforcing fractures and rekindling potential conflicts. Yet the instruments of peace are there: we have a collective imagination and memory of the past and of wars, the UN has a general policy of peace education that guides school curricula, and the West has developed a common conception of solidarity, tolerance and respect for human rights... Are these models outdated in the face of new challenges and new priorities?

The summer school offers students the chance to reflect on these issues, benefiting from a multi-disciplinary university education and the expertise of people working in the field. Following the usual format, the summer school will be organized over 6 days, each divided into two parts.

In the mornings, lectures by academics from Quebec and France (historians, political scientists, legal experts, etc.) and testimonials from institutional and association players provide an opportunity to study the subject from a particular thematic angle.

In the afternoon, students will work in teams on an international peace education project to be presented to a secondary school (working groups will be set up to enable exchanges between students from different educational backgrounds).

On the final day, the results of the work are presented to the public.
