Course description

This MOOC provides an introduction to speaking and writing in the language common to the entire Arab world, Standard Arabic, and to a dialect spoken in the Near East and understood throughout the Arab world, the Syrian-Lebanese dialect.

The training is organised around simple tasks referenced in level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

By the end, you will be able to greet people in a simple manner, introduce yourself (name, address and telephone number, profession, origin, occupation), fill in a simple form with your name, address, nationality and marital status, ask for directions, use basic polite phrases, book a room and place an order in a restaurant, or make a purchase. You will also learn to write and read the Arabic alphabet.

Along with language training, the MOOC emphasises the cultural aspects, essential for interacting with speakers in a respectful manner and understanding their customs and values.
