Course description
The course introduces the game-based teaching and learning concept Sust-AI-nability, which combines key questions of sustainable artificial intelligence (AI) with gamification and digital mini-challenges. In a strategic, turn-based board game, players make decisions regarding the development, use, and regulation of AI systems, experiencing real-world conflicts of interest and dilemmas between ecological, economic, and social dimensions of sustainability.
Students first gain an understanding of sustainability in relation to and enabled by AI. They then take on the roles of gamers and game developers under guidance. The focus is on fostering critical thinking, systems thinking, and ethical reflection in the context of AI and sustainability. In addition, students gain insight into how AI can be incorporated into science lab courses.
Schedule
Monday: Introduction to AI and Sustainability + Testing of the game
Tuesday: An Introduction to AI in High School Lab Courses
Wednesday: Development of mini-challenges
Thursday: Presentation and Feedback
Requirements
Students enrolled in teacher training programs from the following departments: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Geography, and Economics. This offer is not open to UMU and INALCO students
