Course description
This course explores trauma from both clinical and social perspectives, examining its causes, consequences, recovery processes and preventative approaches. We will discuss trauma-related disorders such as PTSD, their diagnostic criteria and risk factors, as well as neurobiological mechanisms underlying trauma responses.
Beyond individual experiences, the course also addresses collective trauma, transgenerational transmission, and the effects of trauma on marginalized communities. Special topics include migration and trauma, racism and psychological distress, and various therapeutic interventions, focusing on narrative exposure therapy.
