Digital well-being: exploring the human side of technology for a healthier digital future

Professor María del Mar Grandío Pérez – University of Murcia

The work of Mar Grandío, Professor at the University of Murcia’s Department of Communication, addresses digital well-being – a concept that has become essential in a world where technology shapes our daily lives.

Combining communication, humanities, and linguistics, Prof. Grandío’s project seeks to raise awareness about healthy technology use, digital disconnection, and ethical approaches to artificial intelligence. Her goal is to help individuals and communities build a balanced and mindful relationship with digital tools, reducing risks while maximizing opportunities.

As part of the Champions programme, she will undertake research and outreach activities during international mobility periods at partner universities and institutions. These collaborations will strengthen her ongoing research and create practical resources for society.

For Prof. Grandío, “it is impossible to understand overall well-being without considering technology.” Her work as a Champion aims to turn this insight into concrete actions that promote healthier, fairer, and more inclusive digital environments for all.
