The first EUniWell Sustainability Forum will be hosted by Nantes Université from 15-16 November 2022. The event will coincide with the the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) as a way to contribute effectively to the global conversation on climate change , with concrete actions decided at a local level and at the EUniWell universities. 2022 is also the European Year of Youth, and the EUniWell Sustainability Forum aims to actively engage our students, paving the way for the future generation to lead the way on how to effectively tackle the global challenge of climate change.

As part of the EUniWell Sustainability Forum, selected students from EUniWell universities have been invited to attend in-person. The students were selected following a Call for Ideas on the topic “How can we reduce the carbon footprint of universities?”. From the wide variety of projects submitted, a number of students from each EUniWell university won the opportunity to meet up with other motivated and committed students from across Europe. This initiative supports and develops student learning opportunities and leadership capabilities in the field of sustainability.

The Forum will focus on promoting and disseminating the value of the actions implemented within EUniWell as well as act as a source of inspiration for the stakeholders and the local area. The conference is designed as a place for exchange between subject matter experts, educators, students, and citizens.

The programme of the EUniWell Sustainability Forum includes a visit of Nantes Université’s green-site in La Roche-sur-Yon, a collaborative climate workshop, and a hackathon. The hackathon will see two winning ideas from students selected by a group of subject matter experts. Both experts and students will then engage in discussions and activities aimed at having a tangible impact by setting up local projects to reduce the carbon footprint of the universities. Participating students will also become full members of the “EUniWell Green Students Community”.
