Nantes Université offers a university model that is unique in France by uniting a university (University of Nantes), a university hospital (Nantes Université Hospital), a technological research institute (IRT Jules Verne), a national research organisation (Inserm) and three schools (Centrale Nantes, Nantes Saint-Nazaire School of Fine Arts, Nantes School of Architecture).
The comprehensive and multi-disciplinary university boasts 43,000 students in technology, humanities and sciences. It has a strong focus on excellence in teaching and research and two fields of priority in health and industry of the future. Nantes Université is ranked among the top 200 universities that contribute the most actively to sustainable development objectives addressed by the United Nations (THE university impact rankings) and among the top 100 Reuters ranking for Europe most innovative universities.
- Halle 6 Ouest or how to invest brownfields into the 21st century university? This interdisciplinary university centre dedicated to digital cultures at Nantes Université is based in Halle 6 Ouest, in the heart of the Quartier de la Création, on the Island of Nantes (Île de Nantes). This place of experimentation for “the university of tomorrow” is unique in France and proposes a new pedagogy around digitalisation. It aims to be the spearhead of creative exchange in Nantes.
- Environmental humanities master’s degree: In September 2022, Nantes Université will open a new master's degree dedicated to “Environmental Humanities”. During the two-year course, students will be trained to become professionals capable of establishing dialogues between human and social sciences, Earth and life sciences and creative practices to support socio-ecological transitions. Once they have graduated, young executives will be able to work on assignments related to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), in organisations linked to climate change, government agencies or may move towards the media, education or research.
- Sustainable development conference: By the end of 2022, the governance of Nantes Université will include a sustainable development conference. This new consultative body, inspired by the model of the citizens’ conventions, will contribute to the transformation of our campus and engage our community. Its members, drawn by lot in equal numbers among students and staff, will stimulate, challenge, advise and evaluate the coherence of Nantes Université’s actions with regards to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
