“Behind the Seen”
15:00 – 15:50 (CEST) / 14:00 – 14:50 (BST)
The arts can make a powerful contribution to supporting health and well-being amongst individuals and communities. They provide opportunities to connect with each other, to engage in creativity and to take a step back from the stresses of everyday life. Artists themselves often convey emotion through their work, telling the viewer how they think and feel. In this session, we will delve deeper into the story of a particular painting housed at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts (University of Birmingham Edgbaston campus). We’ll seek to go beyond what we see to understand the artwork through the lens of the creator, exploring how the artist’s own experiences have shaped the piece. Later, we will get creative with a fun way to capture your own scene in whatever material you choose.
For the session you’ll need:
- Sheets of paper (any size)
- Your favourite drawing medium – e.g. crayons, pencils, pastels, pens. A simple biro will do!
- Scissors (not essential)
After the session, enjoy a “screen break” before the next FestiWell event, and put your new skills into practice.
