Building Beyond Borders: How EUniWell Partners Are Catalysing Change Through Erasmus+ Cooperation

While EUniWell remains strong in fostering meaningful collaborations across its members, its connections extend well beyond its own initiatives. As three innovative Erasmus+ projects show, EUniWell universities leverage their partnerships to create impactful educational and research venues, reflecting a shared commitment to address critical global challenges.

The LULaC Project: Preserving Linguistic Diversity

The first of the three projects – titled Lesser-Used Languages Classroom, or LULaC for short – is created to preserve and promote Europe’s linguistic diversity. This Erasmus+ partnership, coordinated by Inalco and co-managed by EUniWell partners University of Cologne, University of Florence, and Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv, aims to digitally develop teaching resources for lesser-used linguistic systems, selecting Ukrainian and Turkish as pilot languages. One of LULaC’s primary goals is to create materials aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and launch digital courses through the EUniWell Learning Management System. By creating accessible and high-quality resources, the project seeks to ensure that these languages continue to thrive, while fostering cross-cultural understanding and academic exchange across borders.

EU-GANOM: Empowering Project Management Excellence

Another significant initiative is EU-GANOM; an Erasmus+ cooperation led by Nantes Université. The project, born out of a Seed Funding Call within EUniWell, brings together six universities spanning France, Sweden, Spain, Greece, Albania and Ukraine, and includes Linnaeus University, University of Murcia and Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv. EU-GANOM aims to enhance the skills of the administrative staff managing European projects, particularly under Horizon Europe and Erasmus+ frameworks. By fostering synergies between education, research, and innovation, the project aspires to establish sustainable practices and improve the overall quality of European project management. Under EU-GANOM, the consortium will benefit from training programmes, initially focused on administrative teams and later expanded to include research staff and students. Planned activities include staff weeks hosted in Sweden, Spain, and France, providing opportunities for knowledge exchange and capacity building. With a budget of 250,000€ and a timeline extending to 2026, EU-GANOM is poised to drive excellence and sustainability in European project management, building on the strengths of its diverse partners.

BAGSKOL: Strengthening Global Citizenship Education

The third project titled BAGSKOL - also coordinated by Nantes Université - underscores the importance of preparing educators to address the complexities of global citizenship. This Erasmus+ partnership involves six universities from France, Spain, Germany, Sweden, and Ukraine, including EUniWell member universities Linnaeus University, University of Murcia and Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv, showcasing a broad geographical and cultural scope. BAGSKOL focuses on enhancing secondary school teacher training to equip educators with the tools needed to tackle culturally and politically sensitive issues in their classrooms. Initially launched as a Seed Funding project within EUniWell, BAGSKOL has since evolved into a fully-fledged Erasmus+ partnership with a budget of €400,000. Scheduled to commence in December 2024, the three-year initiative will empower teachers to foster critical thinking and inclusivity among students, ensuring that future generations are prepared to navigate a rapidly changing world.

Beyond EUniWell: A Network of Impact

Although running as Erasmus+ projects, LULaC, EU-GANOM, and BAGSKOL not only owe their origins to the connections facilitated by EUniWell but also demonstrate how far reaching the influence of the Alliance really is. By creating opportunities for mutual learning, resource sharing, and innovative problem-solving, these partnerships exemplify the transformative potential of academic cooperation and represent a powerful commitment to advancing education, cultural understanding, and societal well-being across Europe and beyond.
