Cultural and Linguistic Transformation Initiative for Virtual Open Educational Resources in EUniWell (CULTIV-OER-E)

General Overview

University teaching and digital health are both undergoing a fast-evolving revolution. Across Europe, universities produce many high-quality educational resources, but these materials are often limited by language barriers, local contexts, or institutional platforms. As a result, valuable teaching content remains underused outside its institution of origin. Students and professionals need access to reliable knowledge on topics such as health data, artificial intelligence in healthcare, and digital medicine.

The CULTIV-OER-E project addresses this challenge by transforming existing Open Educational Resources (OER) to enable sharing and reuse across different EUniWell universities.

Purpose and Significance

CULTIV-OER-E aims to adapt these resources not only linguistically but also culturally and pedagogically. This approach allows the content to reach a broader audience and support collaborative learning across institutions through EUniWell’s course catalogue and local university platforms. The project also develops a reusable EUniWell model for transforming OER that can further adapted by others, strengthening cooperation among partners and improving access to knowledge.

Implementation Method and Timeline

The project brings together five EUniWell partner universities: Nantes Université, Linnaeus University, the University of Murcia, Semmelweis University, and the Medical University of Warsaw, each contributing expertise in digital health education, artificial intelligence in health or multilingual education.

Timeline: 

  • Month 1 – Project Launch:Kick-off meeting to define objectives and initiate the ideation phase for identifying potential Open Educational Resources (OER).
  • Months 1–3 – Resource Identification and Selection: Partners map existing resources and evaluate their potential for transformation.
  • Month 4 – Methodology Framework: Delivery of the preliminary adaptation toolkit outlining the OER adaptation framework.
  • Months 4–5 – Preparation Phase: Linguistic adaptation planning and pedagogical preparation, including student involvement and multilingual adaptation work led by the Medical University of Warsaw.
  • Month 6 – Collaborative Production Workshop: Two-day in-person workshop hosted by Nantes Université; transformation and production of selected resources into OER content. The process will be documented to record the methodology for future use.
  • Months 7–10 – Post-Production and Quality Assurance: Translation, subtitling, editing, and pedagogical validation carried out by partners.
     Final adapted OER resources completed.
  • Month 11 – Dissemination Event
     CULTIV-OER-E’s concluding dissemination meeting, presenting the produced resources and sharing the methodology across EUniWell.
  • Month 12 – Project Consolidation
     Documentation of lessons learned and release of the revised adaptation toolkit enabling other institutions to replicate the methodology.

Expected Outcomes

The project will produce five to ten adapted OER in digital health that can be reused across EUniWell universities. In addition, the consortium will develop a toolkit of best practices, documenting the process of transforming educational content across languages and cultural contexts. These outcomes will support future collaboration within the alliance by providing a practical methodology for sharing and adapting educational resources. CULTIV-OER-E aims to improve access to high-quality education, promote open knowledge sharing, and establish a sustainable model for collaborative educational development across European universities
