Open Education Week 2026: Why is sharing challenging?

03/03/2026

Each year, the first week of March marks Open Education Week, a global moment to celebrate open knowledge, open resources, and the educators who champion them. This year, EUniWell has a full month of initiatives to share.

"Sharing is a challenge": A blog series on Open Education

Starting Monday, 2nd March, a new article will be published every day (Monday to Thursday) on the EUniWell Open Education blog, throughout the entire month of March. Developed in collaboration with the UNESCO RELIA Chair and the UNESCO UNITWIN Network on Open Education, and following the success of last year's "23 Good Reasons for Open Education" series, this year's contributions explore a question at the heart of academic life: Why is sharing (knowledge, resources, and practice) still so challenging?

The series, entitled "Sharing is a Challenge", brings together 16 articles written by 27 authors from 15 countries across America, Africa, Asia, and Europe, in five original languages (English, French, Hungarian, Italian, and Spanish), reflecting EUniWell's commitment to multilingualism and accessibility. The series opens with an introduction by Ahmed Galai, a human rights activist and member of the steering committee of the Tunisian Human Rights League from 2000 to 2016, which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2015 as part of the National Dialogue Quartet a coalition that played a pivotal role in Tunisia's democratic transition. His contribution sets the tone for a series that connects Open Education to broader questions of civic life, freedom of expression, and the common good.

Every article will be published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) licence, meaning anyone will be free to use, translate, adapt, or redistribute the content.

New articles will continue to be published through to the end of the month. You can subscribe to the newsletter to receive each article directly in your inbox: subscribe here.
