Course description

This MOOC is designed primarily to train university professors in applying Service-Learning (SL) methodologies to address the needs of migrants and refugees. At the same time, the course is open to students and staff who wish to better understand migration realities and acquire tools to promote inclusion.

Grounded in the idea that universities and social organisations play a key role in countering extremism and xenophobia, the MOOC highlights the importance of strengthening European identity through shared, cohesive citizenship. By engaging with the course, participants will gain both theoretical and practical insights into the challenges faced by migrants and refugees, and learn how to design actions that foster inclusion as a two-way process.

The Service-Learning methodology proposed by the project connects academic training with real-world challenges, enabling students to apply disciplinary knowledge to identified social needs while reflecting critically on their experiences. This approach not only reinforces the university’s social mission but also cultivates responsible citizenship by placing diversity at the heart of the learning process. Evidence shows that SL helps students confront stereotypes, value interculturality, and develop confidence in diverse contexts. In doing so, the methodology contributes to the recognition of common human experiences and the promotion of inclusive, resilient communities.
