Interactions between science and societies
An introduction to why and how to engage in science communication activities
Course description
Since COVID and the decrease in the trust in science it created, science communication (scicom) has been gaining a lot of interest as a field of study and an essential practice to guarantee a healthy debate among citizens and evidence-based decisions from policymakers.
As a researcher, whether your motivation is about fighting misinformation, granting open and easy access to knowledge to all, shifting your career, ensuring the health and well-being of your democratic system, checking that annoying deliverable to complete your research project and report results to your supporting institution, there are many reasons why you should get familiar with science communication.
Together we will explore the global and local contexts of science communication, through scientific literature and news article. We will get in the weeds of misinformation, theories of communication and such. We will also share experiences, tips, resources, and see what your own motivation is for becoming a great science communicator.
