Lake Model United Nations 2025 - BIP

Waves of ideas, tides of change in an uncertain present

Course description

Our project concerns a Model United Nations conference hosted at the University of Konstanz. The idea is very simple: Simulate the sessions and meetings of real UN bodies, as well as other international organizations such as NATO, in order to give young students a taste of diplomacy and international affairs. Our conference has 7 committees that each have a different focus:

  • Bundestag (Beginner): The first-ever German-speaking committee at a European Model United Nations conference. The timing could not be more impeccable.
  • UN Women (Beginner): A classic committee that works super well at any MUN and raises awareness about a very important social policy topic.
  • NATO (Intermediate): A committee that is essential in the context of the current, dangerous foreign and security politics atmosphere.
  • Historical European Council (Intermediate): A committee that has participants delve into the past and debate European integration from the perspective of the 1990s.
  • COMECON (Expert): An expert-level forum for delegates that are interested in Soviet era policy and how the economy of the Eastern sphere used to work. Allows people to learn about a region that is different from the Western World centred focus of most universities in Germany and Europe.
  • United Nations Security Council (Expert): The toughest committee for the most experienced delegates allowing them to learn about the difficulty of passing a resolution in the presence of veto powers in the UN's most consequential body.
  • IPC (Special): In this committee, delegates act as journalists who report on the happenings in other committees. This creates an interaction between politics and the media, just like in real life.

In addition to our academic sessions that last from morning to evening every day of the conference, our team has prepared social events that take place at night. Those are meant to fix the mood of delegates that debate tirelessly all day, and give them a chance to network. After all, they all come from different places. We envision welcoming around 100 participants from all over Europe in order to debate society's most important topics.
