23 Reasons to Choose Open Education - A Month-Long Celebration

Each year, at the beginning of March, the Open Education Week (OEWeek) brings together organisations worldwide to promote ideas and initiatives related to Open Education. Led by Open Education Global, this event highlights the benefits of Open Educational practices.

In partnership with the UNOE network and the UNESCO RELIA Chair, EUniWell aims to celebrate Open Education and revisit key arguments for encouraging individuals and institutions to embrace Open Education.

A Global Collaboration

To support this effort, experts and educators from multiple continents were invited to contribute articles exploring different aspects of Open Education to publish on our blogs. The response exceeded expectations, with several notable outcomes:

  • Enthusiastic Engagement: Within just 10 hours, all proposed topics had been claimed.
  • A Well-Tested Framework: The selected themes had been refined through various international activities focused on Open Education adoption, ensuring their relevance.
  • Diversity in Contributions: Articles have been submitted from 13 countries in 8 different languages, reflecting the truly global nature of Open Education. 7 contributions in total will come from EUniWell members.

A Month of Open Education

Initially, the plan was to release one argument per day during OEWeek. However, due to the number of contributions and the 23 articles prepared by our contributors and partners, the decision was made to extend the initiative throughout March, following the example set by colleagues in Quebec.

Managing multilingual content across three platforms presents certain challenges, but dedicated teams are working to ensure smooth publication. All contributions will be available on the EUniWell Open Education blog, and contributions will be published under a CC BY licence, facilitating widespread sharing and reuse.

The series will launch in the beginning of March, offering 23 compelling reasons to embrace Open Education.
