AI and the ODDS
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were defined by UNESCO and adopted by the United Nations. They are now used to measure the impact of human activities on the planet, our environment, our societies. To achieve these goals set for 2030, some companies, research labs and non-governmental organizations are seeking to rely on artificial intelligence.
But AI can also have a negative effect on the SDGs. Whether it's its effects on the environment through the resources it consumes, on the economy through the jobs it transforms, or on society through its impact on our personal data.
International meetings have taken place on these issues, including, in August 2019, the workshop “AI and the SDGs” that we co-organized in Macao as part of the IJCAI international conference. This colloquium highlighted some sometimes very surprising ways of using AI in the context of the SDGs.
The objective of this one-day event on September 22 will be to address these questions, to know and recognize the actions in progress, and to put in contact those and those who, seek to create or use the AI in in favor of the SDGs.
A small audience will be in the room, but the event can be followed over the internet.
We will host a keynote and 3 panels, to discuss 3 of the 17 SDGs by examining them through the eyes of academics, industrialists and a representatives of civil society.
We have selected one SDG by major theme:
• Among those concerning society, SDG 3 “Good health and well-being”
• Among those concerning the economy, SDG 8 “Decent work and economic growth”
• Among those concerning the environment, SDG 14 “Life below water”
