Research Visit by Professor Michaela Mahlberg (University of Birmingham) at the University of Cologne

12/07/2020 | Cologne Birmingham

Professor Michaela Mahlberg from the University of Birmingham will be joining Professor Beatrix Busse’s team at the University of Cologne as a visiting professor between January and August 2021 to accelerate research and education cooperation.

Professor Mahlberg (@MichaMahlberg) holds a chair in Corpus Linguistics at the University of Birmingham (UK), where she is also the Director of the Centre for Corpus Research. She is editor of the International Journal of Corpus Linguistics and, together with Wolfgang Teubert, co-editor of the book series Corpus and Discourse. She was the Principal Investigator in the CLiC Dickens project, where she explored how computer-assisted methods can be applied to the study of literary texts. In one of her recent research projects, GLARE, she has been working on the discursive construction of gender in corpora of English children’s literature.

During her stay at the University of Cologne, Michaela Mahlberg will collaborate with Professor Beatrix Busse and her team in both research and education. Together, they will focus on new joint research projects, teacher education, as well as joint innovative teaching formats.

This research visit is an excellent example of bilateral cooperation within the EUniWell alliance. We strive towards more exchange and visits between our partner universities on all levels as soon as the pandemic situation allows.
