The COVARDS project led by Pr Antoine Roquilly at the University Hospital Nantes has been selected for the Flash-CoViD-19 Call for Projects by the French National Research Agency (ANR).

This project aims to describe the association between alterations of host-pathogen interactions induced by CoViD-19 and the risk of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The aim will be (i) to establish a bio-collection of patients with CoViD-19 admitted to the Nantes University Hospital; (ii) describe the alterations in the respiratory microbiome in patients; (iii) reveal the multidimensional immune signatures (e.g. evolution over time) of patients; (iv) develop biomarkers and identify potential drug targets based on host-pathogen interactions to treat patients. The results of this project will improve the understanding of the pathophysiology of ARDS and select the best therapeutic approaches.

This research project is scheduled for 18 months and involves several labs of the university of Nantes (EA3826 and the CRTI – Center for Research in Transplantation and Immunology) and is developed together with the Nantes University Hospital.
