Open Science Meet-Up: “As open as possible” in practice – The handling of sensitive, qualitative data at RDC Qualiservice

Based on the introduction provided in the Meet-Up on 1 July, this meet-up will provide a detailed look at one exemplary Research Data Center (RDC) and its activities. The RDC Qualiservice archives qualitative social science research data from all academic disciplines and makes it available for academic reuse. Its portfolio covers data such as different kinds of interviews, ethnographic material such as field notes and observation logs, mixed-methods data, image and audio material, and audiovisual data. All these data types have in common that they are generally personal, rich in detail and highly context-dependent. Beyond that, all of this data contains sensitive information. The expertise of the RDC Qualiservice lies precisely in this area: addressing data protection, research ethics, and technical requirements in order to be able to archive such research data and make it available to the academic community for further use. During the meet-up, this approach to handling such data will be presented and discussed in the context of open science. We look forward to your questions, experiences and ideas following the presentation. Everyone is warmly invited – no registration is required.
