This Blended Intensive Programme is aimed at students of Teacher Training with the subjects History and/ or Social Sciences (Bachelor or Master) from EUniWell universities and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (Hogeschool van Amsterdam). It is organised as an Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) with online classes and onsite sessions in Cologne.

The programme is coordinated by the University of Cologne and classes are designed by EUniWell professors (University of Cologne and Linnaeus University) in cooperation with the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.

The learning objectives of the programme are as follows:

  • Gain insight into various history curricula and teaching approaches across Europe
  • Develop skills in designing and evaluating lessons incorporating national and European heritage
  • Explore opportunities for international collaboration in history education and engage with diverse perspectives
  • Learn strategies for navigating challenging memory cultures

Contents will be discussed from different perspectives:

  • Practical perspective: How to make choices/ how to activate learners?
  • Moral perspective: What options are there to discuss hot and cold issues? Teaching or preaching.
  • Inclusive perspective: How do you reach/ include students who are traditionally not well-served by the system? What are marginalised groups?

The course starts off with an online meeting. In the middle of the course, students and lecturers will spend a week in Cologne to work together on lesson materials. Lessons will be implemented, evaluated and discussed in a closing online seminar.

At the end of the course, participants are expected to do a group presentation and to hand in a report. The programme corresponds to 5 ECTS. Students will receive a certificate after successful participation.
