Empowering young generations: the EUniWell School Ambassador Programme
As highlighted by the European Commission, civic engagement is essential for democracy and active participation. In line with this vision, and as part of its broader commitment to promoting civic engagement and social well-being, EUniWell has developed the School Ambassador Programme.
Following the successful launch during the Alliance’s pilot phase, this initiative seeks to bridge the gap between higher education institutions and local communities, with a special focus on underrepresented and disadvantaged students. It does so by promoting higher education and raising awareness on European opportunities.
Who are the School Ambassadors?
At the heart of the programme are the EUniWell School Ambassadors. They are students, coming from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, who are passionate about fostering well-being and lifelong learning. They act as visible “faces” of the Alliance at their home institutions, promoting higher education pathways and opportunities.
Drawing on their own student experiences, they inspire and guide younger students, particularly through outreach to local primary and secondary schools. Ambassadors serve as role models, sharing their personal educational journeys, discussing university life, providing insights and promoting well-being, lifelong learning, and equal educational opportunities. Their involvement helps demystify the transition from school to university, offering guidance and encouragement to young students considering their futures.
A multi-level programme
The Programme operates on both local and European levels. Each EUniWell university implements internal activities, involving Ambassadors visiting high schools and presenting experiences and the broader benefits of European higher education.
Beyond local engagement, the programme fosters cross-border collaboration among the Ambassadors. A notable example is the creation of the EUniCast podcast, which targets young generations of students beginning their university path. Recorded by School Ambassadors, this series focuses on the realities of university life, offering tips, advice, and personal stories to prospective students. The podcast serves as a valuable resource for those navigating the complexities of higher education decisions.
EUniCast is already available here on Spotify and will see new episodes coming in the next few months.
Why becoming a School Ambassador?
Joining the School Ambassador Programme offers EUniWell students a wide range of benefits, among which the development of communication, presentation, and organizational skills and the pursuit of networking opportunities with peers across Europe, which allows them to gain international experience.
Looking ahead
The EUniWell School Ambassador Programme is more than just an educational outreach initiative. It is a movement towards a more inclusive, connected and well-being-oriented European society. By empowering students to become agents of change, EUniWell is helping to shape a new generation of engaged, informed, and inspired citizens.
