Contemporary Diversity in Migration Research in Europe
18/11/2025 to 19/11/2025
Global migration, shaped by economic, demographic, political, and humanitarian factors, remains central to Europe’s cooperation. In today’s polarized climate, with rising demands for restrictive regimes, issues of inclusion, justice, and human rights are more urgent than ever. We are therefore pleased to invite you to a seminar on contemporary diversity in migration research in Europe, hosted by the University of Florence within the framework of EUniWell. The aim is to discuss contemporary research, identify gaps and synergies, and explore possibilities for future joint research.
Programme
International Seminar: Contemporary Diversity in Migration Research in Europe: 19 November, 9:30–12:30 CET, Novoli University Campus (Florence).
This seminar will bring together PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, senior scholars and students in migration studies for a morning seminar. Faculty members are invited to present their ongoing or recent research on migration and related themes, contributing to a collective reflection on current trends in the field. Building on a mapping of ongoing research and educational offers within the EUniWell Alliance, the morning seminar will:
- Reflect on the diversity of ongoing migration research
- Identify synergies and opportunities for future joint initiatives
- Explore ways to sustain contacts and collaborations
- Discuss potential avenues for future funding
Lunch break at 12:30 CET is recommended in the campus area, where many cafés and restaurants are available.
In addition, participants are warmly invited to a workshop under the same thematic umbrella on the day before:
Workshop: Our Uni, Our Voices: Rethinking Migration Narratives, 18 November, 15:00–18:00 CET, Novoli University Campus (Florence).
This workshop invites participants to challenge stereotypes and critically rethink how migration is addressed and taught within EUniWell universities. Through dynamic and participatory exercises students will move from critique to action. The outcome will be a Student Manifesto on Migration, articulating inclusive and forward-looking perspectives that can travel across the EUniWell alliance and inspire concrete change in academic and societal approaches to migration. University teachers, researchers, and practitioners are warmly encouraged to attend, observe, and engage with the process, contributing their expertise while also gaining insights from student perspectives.
After 6:00 pm, there will be an optional informal student get-together in the campus area.
