BIP - EUniWell Moot Court - 3rd edition

Course description

This programme follows the first two editions of the EUniWell Moot Court, which took place in Murcia and Birmingham with EUniWell Seed funding. The core of the programme will be a moot court competition focusing on international and European law, accessible to non-specialist students with an interest in these topics. The competition is open to students from all partner universities, subject to their being able to form a four-person team and to obtain the necessary funding to travel to Nantes for the in-person event.

The first phase will be the elaboration and publication of the case, followed by the selection of the participating students in each participating university. The teams will be composed of four students each, ideally coached by a member of the teaching staff at their partner university. The case will be published on the EUniWell website.

During the second phase, the teams will start working on the case. The January online event will be an opportunity to support the teams’ preparation, present the rules, e.g. to present advice on public speaking in the context of the preparation of their pleadings.

During the third phase, the in-person event will include both the final phase of the moot court and a number of team-building activities and seminars related to European and international law and the development of written and oral skills for lawyers. For the moot court, the final phase will be composed of a first round, semi-finals and a final between the two best teams. Each participating team will defend the positions for plaintiff and defendant. The juries will be made up of prestigious specialists in European and international law in the countries of the partner universities, legal practitioners and professors in the partner universities.

All participating students will be presented with certificates and obtain 5 ECTS from Nantes University. The winning team and Best speaker will receive an award and, inasmuch as possible, be offered an internship in prestigious law firms in the field of EU Law or International Law.
