Course description

Blue Growth is the long-term strategy to support sustainable growth in the marine and maritime sectors as a whole. The ‘blue’ economy represents roughly 5.4 million jobs and generates a gross added value of almost €500 billion a year. Development of the blue economy faces legal and environmental challenges, as well as issues of perception among local communities, and must also anticipate the impacts of climate change.

The course is designed to promote technology transfer in blue biotechnology and to inform on the sustainable use of marine resources through a transnational training programme consisting of six webinars. The objective is to enhance knowledge on these issues among learners, especially those interested by entrepreneurship in the Blue Economy.

The course has been developed by UN e-SEA, within the FANBEST project (EAPA_1022/2018) funded by the Atlantic Area Interreg Programme through the European Regional Development Fund.

Schedule

The six webinars will be available in semester 2, 2025/2026. Each webinar lasts 60–120 mins.

Programme:

  • Marine renewable energy resources: offshore wind and ocean
  • Marine extraction of oil, gas and minerals
  • Marine biological resources: fisheries, aquaculture and processing
  • Maritime transport, ports and shipbuilding
  • Maritime and coastal tourism
  • Emerging technologies and interdisciplinary issues (biotechnologies, marine spatial planning, climate change)
